During a period of relative chaos in early June 2026, I was looking for some sort of orientation/guidance on where I should dive back into my creative work. I pulled a spread of cards from my Mayura deck. That spread was headed-up by the Firekeeper and supplemented by the Shaman, and it also included my desert journey card with the flaming circle in the middle. Various elements from that spread eventually connected the dots back to this image, which had already been placed in the queue to be uploaded onto the gallery wall. It wasn’t the first one on the list, but in the spirit of things I am moving it to the front of the queue.
In a way, I do see what is being networked between the card pull and the images. I definitely needed that Shaman energy to walk through the disoriented place I was and look for some sort of anchoring point and direction. In the past that might have left me wandering around in the sand storm for quite a while. These days I have a kind of toolkit. Oddly enough, I kind of jokingly called that the “Quicksand” guide sometime last year. It is fitting.
It’s also fitting I suppose (thanks Larry) that these were the images already queued up—their nature having captured a kind of orientating presence in my nervous system. Worn in there, I suppose, over many many years of desert wandering.
